Aithan's female friend has been moderately helpful, but now I wish she was elsewhere. Her line of questioning and her tone is something I'd never tolerate in my own realm. I have to restrain myself to not give her an answer she deserves. Well, that's what I get for leaving the zone of my own authority and subjecting myself to this primitive alien planet.

I regret giving in to Aithan's wish to go to his parents. While I'd enjoy meeting them sooner or later, this is not the time. We have someone tailing us, and I'm sure there must be people waiting for us at his parents' house. Well, my Royal Guards are there now and will make sure nothing violent happens. I've ordered them to remain invisible and to only intervene if necessary. I think they will do well. My outburst earlier today should focus their minds and get the whole Guards company to want to get back into my good graces.

I'm worried about Aithan. This rapidly developing pregnancy of his can't be good for his health. He's constantly eating, and his mood swings are getting stronger and more frequent. It would be much better for us all if we were back at the spaceship.

I'm also worried about what Tana might do. I haven't talked to her since she was humiliated during that silly press conference. She'll be seething with rage just about now, seeing her own hopes for marrying me and producing me an heir quashed for good. Well, the royal succession is my affair, not hers. But she's ambitious and unpredictable.

But at the back of my mind, I'm as happy as I can be. An heir to the throne is growing inside Aithan, and if it's true that our legendary hero King Beron was also born in this way, it seems probable that it will be an unusually worthy prince or princess. Either is fine with me – we have had some extraordinarily good queens ruling our empire.

The other vehicle is still on our tail. It's like something out of a history book – wheeled vehicles that are manually driven, an unborn heir to the kingdom to protect and a prince trapped in a foreign land. I am enjoying this, too. So different from my daily life of ruling our kingdom.

But it can't go on for too long. Soon, things must be brought back under control. My control.
